Lauryn Hill still got it...

Lauryn Hill performed at the Harmony Festival 2010 in Santa Rosa, California a few days ago. Wyclef said she needed some psychiatric help (click here for audio). He go goes on about leaving her heartbroken, blah blah blah....he's so full of himself, and his voice is the most irritating thing ever. ooops. oh well. Then, there's the most recent thing that came out about his organization 'Yele'. He was mishandling funds. He was sleeping with a personal assistant that turned out to be the vice president of Yele...something...but she was well paid for her...uhh..work...yeah, $108k. I just think wyclef is a sleaze and is very underhanded. He went years without speaking on his relationship with Lauryn, then to be sleeping with someone else under the table...sounds very likely he'd be stealing and tricking too. Slick don't slide forever....homeboy.
I know I'm re-telling an already stale story, but seeing this video here ignites in me something for her. She settled out of sight because fame wasn't for her, and I like that = humility. And I agree with her on God, peace, mercy, suffering, togetherness, equality, and voicing the struggle. What's most important to me about her is that she can relate like no other female MC. She responded to the paps that she may possibly be working on a new album....I just hope we're ready, cause ready or not .....you can't hide.

Why every Indian wanna be the chief?

Feed a man 'til he's full and he still want beef
Give me grief, try to tief off my piece
Why for you to increase, I must decrease?
If I treat you kindly does it mean that I'm weak?
You hear me speak and think I won't take it to the streets
I know enough cats that don't turn the other cheek
But I try to keep it civilized like Menelik
And other African czars observing stars with war scars

Get yours in this capitalistic system
So many caught or got bought you can't list them
How you gonna idolize the missing?
To survive is to stay alive in the face of opposition
Even when they comin' gunnin'
I stand position
L's known the mission since conception
Let's free the people from deception
If you looking for the answers
Then you gotta ask the questions
And when I let go, my voice echoes through the ghetto

..protecting and serving, lol!

Take me off the list, I don't want anyone acting like this protecting or serving me. I realize that spotlighting one particular instance where brutal force is used in an arrest sounds a little Anti-America, but I think that police overuse intimidation and authority. These girls were j-walking....and get handled like this? I see the resistance, yeah sure, but put the handcuffs on her and put her in the car, call for back-up.....but i saw absolutley no reason to punch the girl in the face. What I saw was inappropriate handling and disrespect and a freind not knowing what to do when this was happening right infront of her, so she tried to get between what was looking like assault. I say she's a hero, for actually protecting and serving, lol! The officer is the only one that seems to be breaking laws.

I hate driving down the road and nearly having a heart attack when i ride past a cop pointing a radar GUN at my car. Does it really have to look like a gun/ held like a gun? Why do police back up where you can't see them, isn't that unethical? Why is it that when a call involving guns or drugs is made forty officers show up to block traffic and cause a scene, but when you need them (which for me has only been 3 times in my life) they come HOURS after you first call. It seems police only show up to arrest and frighten.

There is no reason for a grown man to ever punch a woman or girl in the face. Not only should this officer be fired with no package, but police departments all across the world should change how they interact with citizens and not simply terrorize.
I think some laws are drawn up to give reason to arrest people. j-walking? what is that? walking across the street not at an intersection? okay... Just sharing.

What I'm listening to....

This b keeps it fresh huh? Sounds good, looks good, Beyonce better keep up.....

Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings "I Learned the Hard Way"

I love that sound....

Diva Anita Baker lost her groove.....

Divas....
It says somewhere that we must respect our elders. I agree. But does it say near that same place 'know your limitations'?
Just asking...because Anita Baker sounds like herself but it's obvious her skills have diminished. Which brought me to thinking that it's plainly obvious that you attack your opportunity when it presents itself, when, if ever, it returns the situation is always a little askew, lol! yes, askew.

Nita is still my girl, but she could have graced us with just one last album, just a few hits, before bowing out. But to return decades later to be pitchy and out of practice, butchering, yes, butchering the National Anthem at a venue like the NBA Finals? I'll pass.

Some divas have held onto it. Look at Janet and Price, lol! Seriously....Gladys Knight still sounds good. Patti sounds great! Mary J. Blige is getting up there and still sounds the same. I'm not so rigid to not allow personal effect on your career, have them, but keep your voice.

Whitney has totally disappointed me with her highly anticipated comeback. The music was okay, but she really didn't appear learned and recovered, just hungry and appeasing. Be a diva dammit! That grand display is motivation for us all, don't be drunk, don't be high, don't be a mess under a wig. Work out, practice, stay with the fashion, be a master of the social scene, and when you're caught slipping do it in a way so that every woman can feel the root of it. Slap someone?

Smooth it back out and smile.
Get wasted?

make it look fun...
When you fall
GET BACK UP!

Having to gather yourself and come back to entertain is the business. Don't get in it if you're not going to see it through. I'm the audience and I want to be encouraged, provoked in thought, made to clap my hands, grind my hips, sing, laugh, cry, gossip about you, spread your rumors, wonder if you really are a shipwreck or completely perfect.....ya know be entertained. Be on your job....

...rooting for you NeNe and Greg Leakes

There has been much recent speculation about NeNe and Greg Leakes, star of VH1's The Real Housewives of Atlanta's marriage and most importantly their slated divorce. Well, Large FM Radio Host Corey King set up Greg recently by recording his phone call and releasing it in retaliation for not paying a personal debt owed to him.

Blabbermouth Greg goes on an on about their impending divorce, how much he spent on her 1st season of TRHoA, how fame went to NeNe's head, how they were going to Jamaica to work things out, and blah blah blah.
Poooooor Greg, but I'm not accepting any excuses from him, privacy is privacy, an all too important factor in any relationship. Don't go talking your business, plain and simple. Folks don't care about you working it out, they want a nasty divorce garnished with all of the truth and some lies, fully packed with eye-gaping drama.
NeNe needs to check that azz, but from what I can tell...still stick it out with Greg. He seems like a great husband, fully backing her, after all he said he spent in excess of $300k on the first season of the show. A man has to be down to invest into your passion like that...but an azz checking nonetheless for embarrassment.
I've encountered folks commenting on everything from her nose job, to how they can't stand her ghetto style, her over the top drama antics, and her Amazonian stature. Well, for me, she was the most real of any of the cast. She was the only one other than Lisa that was married, her husband had $300k to blow on her fame, She is a stripper turned social butterfly, the party didn't start till she walked in, and she was the only one who set fear in folks when she went off. NeNe appeared confident, and private, serious but fun, ghetto classy, and useful for some reason.
All of the other ladies, if that's the right thing to call them (surely not wives), were hiding stuff, were broke, were pretending terribly/ horrible acting, and didn't move me. NeNe did.
She's still ghetto, and everyone doesn't have to like her, but I'm rooting for her and her boo.

How many months is Alicia Keys?

Looks to be around 24 weeks, which would give her a due date of late September. I'm taking bets....

Antywayz...Everyone has been beating ol' girl down for taking another woman's husband...yeah yeah I agree but only to a certain extent.
In my heart I'm a liberal woman, I like to beat my own drum, and create my own rhythm in life.
First off, marriage is at the heart.  Screw the rings and the courthouse. A man and a woman make that vow to love and cherish, have and hold, richer or poorer, better or worse, but things change, most importantly people change.
Swizz and Mashonda weren't making it and he wanted to keep his son where he could see him. I'm sure he'd rather pay to take care of both wife and child than have them elsewhere bitter.
So he meets someone that he pairs with like hand and glove, someone that he really falls for.
My guess....The have that surface deep relationship which can be so warm and serious on that junior high level, the secks is good, and he and she are both willing to throw caution to the wind and jump.
So they do, skrew Mashonda.....just divorce and pay child support. I mean really, when might Swizz travel with a woman like Alicia, when will he connect with someone with as much talent, influence, and respect as Alicia? When would he connect with someone who loves music as much as he? Never.
And Alicia says to him 'you give me a feeling that I've never felt before', that 'I deserve this, and I wanna make you a baby', and 'this is exactly how it should feel when it's meant to be'. She says 'time is only wasting, why wait for eventually'. She says 'if we do the unthinkable will it make us look crazy' f it....I'm ready.

I could hold the bible close and say you're wrong Alicia, but the Leslie deep in me says do what you feel.
Alicia might be just the needed lubrication to get Swizz' divorce in motion.

You never know the hell people endure for the sake of marriage. Not speaking, cheating, arguing over the simplest, pretending under scope, hoping things will work out, knowing they won't.

Love is a thing you don't find everyday, better grab it while you can.

Oil and Water

First, I wanted to say that I am sorry to the animals and those that thrive on the Gulf of Mexico's animal population. I'm sorry because I need oil to commute and cool and heat my home.
Things are so complicated now...how do I conserve more so that I wont contribute to the overwhelming demand for the earth's natural resources? Drive what type of car? cool my house how? heat my water how? I have always been conscious of the earth depleting resources, and the waste created by humans, but it feels like God is somehow communicating loudly and clearly with the inhabitants of the earth pleading for change. We really need to make solar energy more affordable, develop wind energy, and raise awareness of the true status of the oil availability and the effects of it's use.
Many people are saying BP is to blame, some say Obama, well I say I'm to blame, you're to blame, We are all guilty and should pay the consequence. I drove clear across town the other day in an attempt to eat some bacon wrapped shrimp, drove to Dallas recently for a party, and drive 45 minutes to La Marque to see my son nearly every week. Needless to say I'm cutting way back. I'm finding a recipe for grilled bacon-wrapped shrimp online, and road trips are up in the air this summer, my son is going to have to come and stay here or stay down there. I'm gathering a list of other tweaks too, mostly to conserve responsibly.
Conservation is a lonely road though. Most people are turned off when I talk conservation, but if none else works I know that when a hole is ripped in the sky and everything burns up, I will know it was prolonged just that much by me not driving the 610 Loop in the middle of the night to get out of the house.
So much has happened recently that I actually can call it, the world is in peril. Hurricanes Katrina and Ike, Haiti's Earthquake, Obama's Election, a few personal problems, and now the Gulf of Mexico's oil disaster......We're surely destroying this world, and I just hope that it's demise can be prolonged by everyone coming together in agreeance and making some conservative changes.

Here's a few things you can do too:

  • Recycle

  • Lower your water heater temperature

  • Hang your clothes out to dry

  • Stay at home and play a board game

  • Turn off the lights

  • Stop buying plastic and throwing it away

Marilyn Monhoe...

I wake up this morning to Marilyn monroe signing a seductive Happy Birthday wish to then president John F. Kennedy...which was horrible. Just diving right in....MArilyn was a straight hooker wasn't she? You know I was born in 79' so I don't know much about her, other than white people USED to act like she was the most beautiful thing. She's pretty but personality didn't count for much back then huh? Men liked the dumb blonde thing seriously huh?
I'm glad I was born when I was, becuase either women have come a long way, or the overall public opinion of women has changed.
50 years ago, good looks took you where you wanted to go, now it's a bit different, and most men and women have bent to reasoning. You don't have to agree but I think that slutty music and video ho's are farther from reality than Flava Flav's rap career in 2010.  I'd even go a step further to say that videos in the BET sense are irrelevant, 106 & Park is dead, and gold teeth and braids are out.
Yes, I still watch videos, but I'm getting tired of the recycled dancers, lyrics, and fashion. I want an audio visual feast...I'm current and I know what sounds and looks good. Is it too much to ask for great looking artists, good music, great fashion fused together is a fresh compelling way? sheesh!
Marilyn was a ho....no different than many others - sleazy without shame. She's famous yet still for admitting that her best friends are diamonds.
Women are have evolved, and not just recently. Women have been mis-portrayed in the media for a very long time and somehow I tied Marilyn Monhoe and current video ho's together because, well, I felt like it.
For no particular reason, no particular order here are some women portrayed as real women.
